welcome!

Hello and welcome to my site.

I have recently returned from field research in Kyoto Japan for a doctoral degree in anthropology from UCSD. My research involves the ways in which elderly Japanese understand, cope with and manipulate their experiences of aging through the use of spiritual and religious practices. I am particularly interested in questions about Japanese late-life personality and the tradition of ancestor or "hotoke" veneration. My general interests include psychological anthropology, cognitive science, gerontology and East Asian religion.
